'The Siege of Mooltan' (Multan), India, 1849 (c1857). The Houdah of Mulraj's elephant struck by a cannon ball. The Siege of Multan was precipitated by a revolt in the city after the East India Company imposed a ruler on the inhabitants, beginning the Second Anglo-Sikh War. The siege lasted from 19 April 1848 until 22 January 1849, when the last of the defenders surrendered to the British. From England's Battles by Sea and Land, volume VI, by Lieutenant Colonel William Freke Williams, published by the London Printing and Publishing Company, 1857.
