Plague cottages, Eyam, Derbyshire, 20th century. Eyam is famous as the village that isolated itself from the outside world when a case of plague occurred in 1665 in order to try to stop the infection spreading further afield. After 16 months only 83 of the village's 350 inhabitants had survived.
