Ramsay MacDonald, British politician, 1910 (1938). Regarded as one of the founder members of the Labour Party, James Ramsay MacDonald (1866-1937) became the first Labour politician to serve as Prime Minister when the party won the 1924 General Election. He was expelled from the party after he agreed to lead a National Government, most of the members of which were Conservatives, in 1931.
