The First British pilot to break a world record: Captain Bertram Dickson, 1910 (1933). Bertram Dickson (1873-1913), a pioneering Scottish airman and the first British serviceman to qualify as a pilot. Dickson took part in the Lanark flying meet in August 1910, where he won the £400 prize for the greatest aggregate distance flown. He is pictured in a Farman biplane.
