John William Alcock (1892-1919), a Captain in the Royal Air Force, successfully completed the first non-stop transatlantic flight, flying from St John's, Newfoundland, Canada, to Clifden, Connemara, Ireland, with navigator Lieutenant Arthur Whitten Brown (1886-1948), on 15 June 1919.
