Castle Howard, North Yorkshire, 18th century. 'The seat of the Earl of Carlisle, New Malton'. Castle Howard was built between 1699 and 1712 to designs by John Vanbrugh. It was the location for filming of the fictional Brideshead, both in Granada Television's 1981 adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Brideshead Revisited and a two-hour 2008 remake for cinema.
