'Fleet Street, The Temple, Etc.', (1897). Map showing London as it was in the 16th century or so. On the right is Bridewell, on the banks of the Fleet River between Fleet Street and the River Thames. Bridewell Palace was later an orphanage, place of correction for wayward women, prison and a poorhouse. It was closed in 1855. Also shown is Temple Bar.
