Légende

'Room in Sir Paul Pindar's House', (c1872). Interior of a 17th century building, large reception room with fine moulded plaster ceilings, an elaborate chimneypiece and oak panelling. The house, in Bishopsgate, City of London, was originally the residence of the diplomat Sir Paul Pindar. In the 18th century it became a tavern, the Sir Paul Pindar's Head. It was later demolished, although the timber façade was preserved and put on display at the Victoria & Albert Museum. From Old and New London, Vol. II: A Narrative of Its History, Its People, and Its Places, by Walter Thornbury. [Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co., London, Paris & New York]
