'The Duke of Norfolk's Almshouses, in 1796', (c1878). In 1613 Henry Howard, Earl of Northampton, founded the Norfolk College Almshouses at Greenwich on the River Thames, (now part of greater London). His charity provided housing for 12 'poor men' of Greenwich and 8 from Shottisham in Norfolk, the place of his birth. From Old and New London: A Narrative of Its History, Its People, And Its Places.
