'Friedrich von Hardenberg', (1933). Portrait of German writer Friedrich von Hardenberg (1772-1801) who wrote under the pen name Novalis. As well as his work as a poet, author and philosopher of Early German Romanticism, Hardenberg studied geology and mineralogy, and was involved in the industrialisation of the salt mines in Saxony. From "Gestalten Der Weltgeschichte", a book of cigarette-card portrait miniatures of figures in world history from the last four hundred years. [Germany, 1933]
