'Archways Under The Adelphi: Little Robert Street, Named After One of the Brothers Adam', c1935. Arch under the remains of the Adelphi building on the Strand in Westminster, central London. The Adelphi, designed by John and Robert Adam and built 1768-1772, was London's first neoclassical building. Eleven large houses fronted a vaulted terrace facing the River Thames, with wharves beneath. From "Wonderful London, Volume 3", edited by Arthur St John Adcock. [The Fleetway House, London, c1935]
