Lincoln Cathedral, Lincolnshire
Légende
Lincoln Cathedral, Lincolnshire. In 1072 William the Conqueror ordered that a cathedral should be built at Lincoln. It was built by Bishop Remigius and was consecrated in 1092. The cathedral was damaged by fire in 1141 and by an earthquake in 1185. In the past the cathedral's three towers all had spires, but the spire on the central tower collapsed in 1549 and was not replaced, and in 1807 it was decided to remove the spires from the two western towers (pictured) for safety reasons.
