Légende
David Livingstone reading the Bible, Africa, 19th century. Scottish missionary and explorer David Livingstone (1813-1873) began his missionary work in southern Africa in 1841. He was the first European to discover the Victoria Falls on the Zambezi river in central Africa. While searching for the source of the Nile in the late 1860s he became seriously ill and went missing. He was found by Henry Morton Stanley (1841-1904) in 1871 and Stanley joined him in exploring the area. Livingstone never fully recovered from his illness and died in Bangwelulu, Zambia.
