Michigan Avenue looking north, Chicago, Illinois, USA, 1950. Postcard. The Old Water Tower is in the left foreground. Cars and pedestrians are on the street. Designed by William W Boyington, the Chicago Water Tower was built in 1869 to hold water for firefighting. It was the only public building in the affected area to survive the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Today it serves as a visitor centre for the Chicago Office of Tourism.
