TV and recording star 'Wee Willie' Harris visits South Yorkshire, 1958. For a promotion for Morphy Richards, who were based in Swinton, South Yorkshire, TV and recording star Wee Willie Harris was chosen to present the prize for a 'Bride of the year' competition. This took place at the Don and Dearne TV company in nearby Goldthorpe. In this photograph, crowds press forward in an attempt to get a glimps of the visiting celebrity. Five foot tall Willie started his recording career as 'Wee Jock' but changed this after being discovered at the famous 21 Club in London. He was known for his bright clothes and in his younger years had a shock of red hair which he frequently dyed pink. He shot to fame with his rendition of Wild One and was often billed as the British Jerry Lee Lewis.
