The new generation of schools, Swinton, South Yorkshire, 1960. Swinton Secondary Modern School near Rotherham was typical of the late 1950s and early 1960s style of school design. The school had a sixth form from 1960 and was purpose built as a comprehensive but did not formally open as such until July 1962.
