Cross inscribed on a column, Apollonia, Libya. The Ancient Greek city of Apollonia served as a seaport for Cyrene which was first settled by the Greeks c630 BC. It later became a Roman city and amongst the ruins seen today are three Christian churches dating from the Byzantine period.
