Alexandre of Oxford Street, men's clothes shop frontage, Mexborough, South Yorkshire, 1963. Alexandre of Oxford Street's new branch in Mexborough, South Yorkshire. The London retailer opened its new branch in the South Yorkshire mining town in the summer of 1963 after moving from adjacent premises. The shop shows the large recessed entrance common in shops of the era, before the days of high business rates which forced retailers to make good use of every available metre of floor space.
