Brooklyn Bridge, New York City, New York, USA, 1937. Vintage linen postcard showing the Brooklyn Bridge. The view from the Brooklyn side shows the latest skyscrapers of downtown Manhattan. Designed by John Augustus Roebling (1806-1869), who died of Tetanus (Lockjaw) sixteen days after his foot was crushed in an accident on 6 July 1869 during early work in the construction, the bridge was completed by his son Washington Augustus Roebling (1837-1926) and was opened in 1883.
