MacArthur Park, looking east, Los Angeles, California, USA, 1957. Vintage postcard showing Wilshire Boulevard passing through the park and into the city of Los Angeles. The lake in the park is clearly visible. Originally named Westlake Park, MacArthur Park was laid out in the 1880s. It was renamed in honour of American General Douglas MacArthur shortly after World War II. In the 1980s and 1990s the park had a reputation for being crime-ridden and dangerous, but has been transformed since 2002 due to a concerted effort by the Los Angeles Police Department and business and community leaders.
