Trajan's Arch, Merida, Spain, 2007. The Arco de Trajano (Trajan's Arch) is a Roman triumphal arch almost 13m/43ft high. It was the north gate of the Roman town. Merida was founded by the Romans in 25 BC, under the name of Augusta Emerita, as a colony for veterans of the Vth and Xth Legions.
