Bell tower, University of Coimbra, Portugal, 2009. The city of Coimbra is the oldest seat of learning in Portugal, and one of the oldest in the world, with a University founded on the 13th of August 1290 by King Denis (Dinis) I. Designed by an Italian architect, Antonio Canevari, the tower was built betwen 1728 and 1733.
