Maximilian I, Holy Roman Emperor, fighting with a bear, late 15th century (1913). Once when attacked by a she-bear he choked her with his bare hands. Maximilian I (1459-1519) was king of Germany (1486-1519) and Holy Roman Emperor (1508-1519). He established the Habsburg dynasty as an international European power.
