Milk churns being delivered to Hyde Park, London, during the General Strike, 8 May 1926. The General Strike lasted ten days, from 3 to 13 May 1926. It was called by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) in solidarity with the Miners' Federation of Great Britain (MFGB) in an attempt to force the British government to take action to prevent planned wage reductions and increases in working hours in the coal mining industry. The strike failed to achieve its objectives and the following year the government passed the Trade Disputes and Trade Union Act which forbade sympathetic strikes.
