President Woodrow Wilson on the bridge of the 'George Washington', 4 December, 1919. Thomas Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) was the 28th President of the United States, holding office from 1913 until 1921. He was the driving force behind the establishment of the League of Nations after World War I, believing that the organisation could prevent such a conflict from happening again. He travelled to France twice in 1919 on board the SS 'George Washington' to attend the Paris Peace Conference.
