Wath Main Colliery, Wath upon Dearne, near Rotherham, South Yorkshire, 1956. The pit was originally sunk in 1876 to a depth of 382 yards and deepened in 1912 the reach the higher quality coal of the Park Gate seam. In the late 1950s the pit was connected by a diesel roadway to Manvers Main colliery, from where coal mined at Wath was brought to the surface. The last coal was mined in Wath in 1986 and just prior to closure around 400, 000 tonnes per year were being produced.
