Nazi Deputy Leader Rudolf Hess at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trials, Germany, 1945. Between 20 November 1945 and 1 October 1946 the 24 surviving most senior Nazi leaders were tried before the International Military Tribunal in the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg. Hess (1894-1987) received a sentence of life imprisonment, dying in Spandau prison in Berlin after serving 41 years.
