Queen Victoria visiting HMS Resolute, 16th December, 1856, published 1859 (colour lithograph). HMS Resolute was sent to the Arctic to search for Franklin and later abandoned when it became trapped in ice. Queen Victoria (1819 - 1901) is shown visiting the ship after it had been rescued. Timbers from the ship were used to make desks known as Resolute desks.
