'The Main Entrance of the Great Palace in the Peterhof', 1852. Sometimes referred to as the Russian Versailles, the Peterhof was built for Tsar Peter the Great. Peter involved himself closely in the design and construction of the palace and fountains. It was completed in 1725, although wings were added to the palace during the reign of the Empress Elizabeth, Peter's daughter. Found in the collection of the State Open-air Museum Peterhof, St Petersburg.
