'Ali Pacha', (1832). Portrait of Ali Pasha of Tepelena (1740-1822), the Lion of Yannina, Albanian ruler who served as an Ottoman pasha of the western part of Rumelia (Balkans). His rule was characterised by by murders and extortions, and he was assassinated in the Monastery of St Panteleimon in Ioannina, northern Greece. [John Murray, London, 1832]
