Blanchland, Northumberland, c1955-c1980. A general view of Blanchland, looking north from the centre of the village, west of the abbey walls, towards Abbey Cottage and North Hill Cottages. Abbey Cottage, situated on the left side of the road in the foreground, dates from the 18th century, and was constructed with rubble. It has two storeys and three irregular bays, with a boarded door between bays two and threee, and a low rubble wall to the front and right return. In the background, at the top of the hill, are two 18th century cottages, which are rubble with dressings, altered in the 19th century. Each house has two storeys and two bays with a central door, and single storey 20th century extensions to the east and west.
