'Christian at the gate', c1910. Above is the inscription: 'Knock & it shall be opened unto you'. Scene from "The Pilgrim's Progress", by John Bunyan. Glass lantern slide produced by the Church Army Lantern Department which in 1905 had approximately 100,000 such slides. These were available for hire, and were also taken round the country in special vans, to be shown to groups of people for evangelical purposes.
