'Christian avoids the cave of Giant Pope, c1910. The Pope, a symbol of Roman Catholicism, is surrounded by skulls and bones. Scene from "The Pilgrim's Progress", by John Bunyan. Glass lantern slide produced by the Church Army Lantern Department which in 1905 had approximately 100,000 such slides. These were available for hire, and were also taken round the country in special vans, to be shown to groups of people for evangelical purposes.
