'Watts' Memorial', late 19th century. The Watts Memorial Statue, erected 17 July 1861, in Watts Park, Southampton, Hampshire, in memory of Isaac Watts (1674-1748), English Christian minister, hymn writer, theologian, and logician. The life-sized white marble statue, designed by Richard Cockle Lucas, is set on a plinth showing scenes from Watts' life. Watts, who was born in Southampton, is known as the composer of numerous hymns, many of which remain in use today and have been translated into numerous languages.
