'Then saith he to the sick of the palsy. Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house', mid-late 19th century. Biblical scene, from Matthew 9: 6: 'But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.' Jesus forgives a paralysed man his sins and miraculously heals him, enabling him to walk again. Engraving after a work of Jean Jouvenet of the late 17th century.
