'Bound for a "Beano"', 1900, (1933). Londoners riding in a horse-brake for the annual works day out - a 'beano', short for bean-feast, was a colloquial term for an excursion or celebration. These vehicles were used for trips to Golders Green, Hendon and Wembley which at the time were still 'countryside'. From "The Pageant of the Century". [Odhams Press Ltd, 1933]
