Silver plaque, 16th century?, (1881). Etching of a parcel-gilt plaque depicting the Deposition from the Cross, made in Spain, possibly in the 16th century. The central image shows two female figures supporting the body of Christ after the Crucifixion, with the standing figure of his mother Mary in the centre. The plaque may originally have been part of a processional cross, altarpiece or casket. From "The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum).
