Légende
Wood and leather casket, 1350-1370, (1881). Etching of a small box, made in the mid 14th century, possibly in the Netherlands. The casket is covered with thin leather sheets which have been finely tooled to show various scenes. The lid depicts a fashionable couple playing a ball game, observed by a dancing lady and a musician. From "The South Kensington Museum", a book of engraved illustrations, with descriptions, of the works of art in the collection of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (formerly known as the South Kensington Museum).
