Clouds and Waves at the Wu Gorge, 1368- 1644. The underlying notion of human existence in harmony with nature can be found in many traditional Chinese paintings. The mystical forces of the universe are manifested by the grandeur of the landscapes in which the human presence is humble. Here, the depiction of the perilous journey to the Three Gorges still reminds us of the all-powerful forces of nature unconquerable by man.
