Mount Sainte-Victoire, c. 1904. Creator: Paul Cézanne (French, 1839-1906).
Légende
Mount Sainte-Victoire, c. 1904. During the last twenty years of his life, Cézanne repeatedly painted the towering mountain of Sainte-Victoire near his home in Aix-en-Provence. Aiming to reform Impressionism by bringing order and structure to the study of nature, he created tightly integrated compositions of merging, intersecting planes. Here, a rising tree branch echoes the distant mountain slope, thereby relating foreground to background. Sensations of space are created through rhythmic patterns of warm and cool colour.
