Légende
Thetis Running, c. 1527. Although she lacks any defining attributes, this statuette may represent the Greek sea goddess Thetis. The corkscrew-like twist of the body indicates that this work was meant to be viewed in the round and admired from multiple angles. The ambiguous identification would have made this statuette an object of intellectual interest for Renaissance collectors.
