Chapter of the Order of the Garter: Investiture of the King of the French, 1844. A traditional honour is bestowed upon King Louis Philippe at Windsor Castle: 'Upon entering the Chapter-room, his Majesty was received by the Sovereign [Queen Victoria] and the Knights Companions, standing, and placed in a chair of state on the right hand of the Sovereign. Her Majesty then announced to the King of the French that his Majesty had been duly elected a Knight of the Most Noble Order'. From "Illustrated London News", 1844, Vol I.
