Telegraphing the Abstract of the Indian Mail from Marseilles to Paris, 1844. Postal and telegraph service between India and Britain. At Marseilles, '...the papers for France are delivered, and an abstract of the Indian news drawn up for the instant information of the French and English Governments. This abstract is sent by telegraph to Paris and thence to Boulogne by a one-borse "Malle-poste". In France, the telegraph usually occupies the top of a church tower'.
