Arms of the Grand-Duchy of Baden-Baden, 1844. 'Baden is second in rank to Wiesbaden and the most frequented German Spas. The Germans regret very much that there French manners and the French language are mostly in vogue. In addition to the...visitors, or invalids, immense crowds arrive (particularly on Sundays) from Strasbourg and Carlsruhe, either by steam boats or railway. The air is mild and salubrious'.
