Wendon Station, 1845. Railway station at Wenden in Essex, one of the stops on the newly opened line from London to Cambridge and Ely. 'At Wendon station, or rather just before it is arrived at, the railway passes through an embankment of chalk, and a cutting of some length, the only thing of the kind throughout the whole line'. The name of the station was later changed from Wenden to Audley End. From "Illustrated London News", 1845, Vol VII.
