New Betting Room, Newmarket, 1845. Racegoers at Newmarket in Suffolk. 'The New Betting Room was instituted in the autumn of last year for the accommodation of those visitors to Newmarket who had previously, and with good reason, made loud complaint of the absence of such a desideratum. The New Betting Room stands on the site of Messrs. Weatherby's old offices, which was adapted to its present purpose by Mr. George Tattersall, of Pall-mall. It immediately adjoins the Jockey Club Rooms...and is attended by all the visitors to Newmarket - habitual and casual - due care being taken by a responsible committee to exclude the black sheep from the fold'.
