Painting prize - "Finding the Body of Harold" - by Mr. J.C. Hook, 1845. Painting by James Clarke Hook, a student at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. The discovery of King Harold's body at the Battle of Hastings: 'A gold medal, and the Discourses of the Presidents Reynolds and West, for the best historical picture in oil colours; the subject to be: "Finding the Body of Harold." To consist of at least three figures; the size of the cloth to be a common half-length, viz. 4 feet 2 inches, by 3 feet 4 inches; the principal figure to measure not less than 2 feet in height.
