Howard, the horse being modelled by Mr. Macarty, and the whole executed under the superintendence of Mr. Baily, R.A. The composition represents a well-known passage, in the escape of Charles II, from the Cromwellites, after the defeat of the Royalists, at the battle of Worcester. The passage in the perilous adventures of the "unkingship", is that in which Charles, disguised as a servant, was riding from the house of Col. Lane to the sea-coast, accompanied by Miss Jane Lane, he was almost discovered by a farrier...The group has been manufactured at the establishment of Messrs. Hunt and Co'.
