London Central Mosque and The Islamic Cultural Centre, Park Road, Regent's Park, City of Westminster, Greater London Authority, 24/09/1975. A view of the minaret at the London Central Mosque being slipformed in two concentric cylinders, with a crane lowering concrete to the men working on the platform. The minaret of the London Central Mosque was constructed using a slipforming technique, in which concrete is poured into the top of a continuously moving form. The form is raised at a rate which allows the concrete to harden and emerge from the form maintaining its shape. The minaret was formed in two concentric cylinders using the slip form shutter, with a lift located in the central area and a spiral staircase between the two walls. The concrete for the 43 metre high minaret was poured in 10 days from the 15th - 25th September 1975. The site team worked in 12-hour long day and night shifts, six days a week, to achieve this.
