Dinner Plate, 1796/1810. Chinese landscape encircled by depictions of the eight Chinese Immortals of the Taoist religion, with entwined gold initials DW/MC. The plate was part of a large dinner service made for the 1796 wedding of New York politician DeWitt Clinton (1769-1828) and Maria Franklin (1775-1818). Made in China for the American market.
